Chris Rock

Chris Rock is known for an American comedian, actor, and screenwriter. He began has career at a famous New York comedy club Catch a Rising Star, and he was a fixture on the New York stand-up circuit for several years before gaining national exposure. He joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1990, and in 1991 released his first comedy album, Born Suspect; two years later, he left SNL and appeared instead on its primetime rival, In Living Color. Rock premiered his first HBO special, Big Ass Jokes, in 1994, but it was the follow-up, 1996’s Bring the Pain, that earned him two Emmy Awards and a reputation as one of the best comedians in America. He later released several more albums and HBO specials, and in 2007 was tapped to host the Academy Awards. Additionally, his success in stand-up led to roles in films, including Dogma, Beverly Hills Ninja, and The Longest Yard, as well as an Executive Producer role in the semi-autobiographical, Emmy-winning TV series Everybody Hates Chris. Rock married Malaak Compton-Rock since 1996; the couple have two daughters and live in Alpine, New Jersey. Rock was chosen as the 5th Greatest Stand-Up Comedian of All Time by Comedy Central.
